A question about my DVD player repair guide eBook.

Gerry…
Hello. Can you tell me if the DVD repair eBook methods can be applied to CD players?

My 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan automotive CD player does not play any CD's and does not eject CD's.

We also have a Sony AM/FM CD player. We had a power outage several months ago. Ever since then the CD player won't read any CD's.

Everything else works perfectly and I can hear the player trying to read the CD. Thanks.

Feedback and success report from Barbados islands

And for those who may not know Barbados you can learn more about it from  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbados . Briefly  Barbados  is a sovereign island country in the Lesser Antilles. It is 34 kilometers (21 mi) in length and up to 23 kilometers (14 mi) in width, covering an area of 431 square kilometers (166 sq mi). It is situated in the western area of the North Atlantic and 100 kilometers (62 mi) east of the Windward Islands and the Caribbean Sea;[5] therein, it is about 168 kilometers (104 mi) east of the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and 400 kilometers (250 mi) north-east of Trinidad and Tobago. Barbados is outside of the principal Atlantic hurricane belt.

Hi Humphrey,
My name is Winston, and I bought your book on DVD repair. It is fantastic because I have now started making successful repairs on them.

But I need you to tell me the range of resistance measurements for the sled motor and the tray motor; you mentioned twice that the spindle motor should measure between 5ohms and 20 ohms. Is this the same for other two motors, because the ones I have measured are 65 ohms 75 ohms etc, and they all spin with 9v battery attached, but I still am not sure if they are at fault or not.
Hi Winston,
Thank you for the feedback. For the sled motor and tray motor the resistance should be within the same range like the spindle motor.

Having said that the best tester for these motors is the analogue meter whereby if it’s okay it will spin also...this is good enough evidence that the motor is ok.

Sometimes 9 volts can be used to clear semi shorted motors but should not be used for long because it can damage the motor. Have you tried to use the analogue meter on these motors?
Kind regards Humphrey

Hi Humphrey,
Thanks for such speedy response.
I only own a Digital M/ meter at this time, but I will get an analogue one soon.

People here are very much attached to their DVD players, though a few will prefer to buy a new one when theirs go faulty, so I am learning to repair as many as I can for the monies I can get.

I'll call again if other questions arise.

Hi Winston.
Thanks Winston for your feedback. Continue making money but be sure also to invest on more test equipment to speed up your repairs.

All the best …regards Humphrey
